Mice in New York

Postby rjduve on Fri Feb 19, 2010 1:21 pm

I have a friend that was inquiring about mice as pets which prompted me to check out petfinder this afternoon. I noticed that there are 9 males and 15 females that were abandoned in New York. The mice are silver, white with silver spots and brown. I didn't know if anyone would be interested in helping them out. They provide a personal email address on the petfinder site, and it says they can assist with transportation. I just found it touching that they were rescued from being killed by the maintenance guys. (I have such a soft heart for the most helpless!). I already have 12 and am in negotiations with Mrs. Beach for some more, otherwise I would be emailing this lady myself...haha

Just putting it out there... :)

Gee, white with silver spots! How intriguing! I went to Petfinder but didn't have the proper ZIP code. Could you post the link, please?

I used to have an awesome signature, but my mouse peed on it and it needed to be changed. >.<

Yep, that's the ones! I just HAD to share! Without the pictures, it is hard to tell what exactly they mean by the coloring, but I guess you could always email them to find out.

I just emailed Susana, the person who made the listing, and asked for photos. I would LOVE to adopt this colony of females. I am totally out of my mind! Don't know if my husband will approve of this. My heart just goes out to little orphaned mice, and the people who want to help them.

...white mice with silver spots...

Yes! I would appreciate it no end if you could take some of the mice!

Let's see what happens.

You do know that shipping is very very expensive, right? Easily $300.

And I wouldn't trust just anyone to do it properly. The mice need to be properly crated with food and a moisture source, need to be shipped when the weather is *perfect*, and need to get a certificate of acclimation (and preferably a health certificate also) from a vet before being shipped.

Let me know if anyone hears back from Susana. I haven't.

Ouch, I figured it would be pricey. I have a friend who's flying to NY in about a week, if Susana emails back, I'll see if my friend would be able to pick them up for me.

You can't carry-on mice, either. You pay the same whether you are traveling with them or not.

Hhm, I didn't know that. I would have researched it either way, but thank you moi-kitty!

It's rather annoying. I flew to L.A. and shipped some mice to L.A. but couldn't even get any kind of discount :-P

That stinks! You would think airline companies would lower the price if a human was flying with them! Hhm. Maybe I'll talk to Lauren about both of us driving there sometime, and hey! We could go wedding dress shopping! Maybe smuggle the mice in the dress onto the plane, lol. "No, sir, those aren't *real* mice you see in the x-ray. My wedding dress has mice embroidered all over it."
