Rules - MUST READ BEFORE POSTING!

Postby barbarafunmouse on Tue Sep 26, 2006 11:12 pm

This is long. As sad as it is, each rule had to be made because of an unruly member. I wish this wasn't necessary but it is overwhelmingly clear that it is.

Rules may be changed at any time by admin's/mod's, with or without notice. It is your job to read this often. By remaining a member, you agree to the following rules. While we would like to anticipate everything that could possibly happen, it is simply not possible. If something is done to cause a problem, action will be taken whether there is a specific rule for it or not.

New members must post at least once. For more info, See THIS topic.

Our Moderators work hard, and disrespect will NOT be tolerated. If you have an issue with a member of our mod team, you may discuss it with them or another admin/mod via PM, not on the forum.

-NO cursing, harsh language, disrespecting members, antagonizing other members, spam, inhumane treatment towards animals, violence (terrorism, etc), posting about illegal activities, posting offensive material (words, pictures, etc), discrimination (be it gender, nationality, age, etc), inviting people here just to fight or cause problems (resulting in immediate banning), joining just to fight or cause problems (resulting in immediate banning), no posting links to banned members websites/email address/etc, and adult activities which are not suitable for children (including, but not limited to, things that are unlawful for someone under the age of 18 to do).

-NO posting links to websites, or advertisements for mouse-equipment, in your first *10* posts. Exception: links are permitted if they are direct links to pictures of mice (i.e. the link should end in .jpg, .gif, or other picture format extensions). Additionally, if we see that a member is here for the obvious sole intent to promote a site and not be an actual part of the community, we reserve the right to delete any and all links no matter where they are in a persons post history. This is in an effort to welcome mousers into this community, not just a place to spam and leave.

-NO pictures or avatars of animals eating mice or snakes in general. While the topic of feeders is not banned (at least not at the present time) it may be offending to some mouse lovers to see them, especially on a forum that is dedicated to the well being of mice. There is an exception here: If you have a snake as a pet and it is brought up in a tasteful manner (not to offend anyone) in the off topic forum, LINKS to pictures are allowed with a warning of what the pic is of. This will allow people who might get offended to simply not look. We respect all walks of life here, including snakes. However, please understand the sensitivity of this issue and respect the wishes of those that would prefer not to see snake images on a MOUSE forum.

-NO Excessive posting. Please do not post just to "hear yourself talk", so to speak. While we appreciate all you have to say, this forum is so incredibly active that it makes things rather agonizing if we all have to wade through post after post with no real content. We all get chatty from time to time (and that is perfectly okay), but please keep it under control. Excessive posting includes unnecessary double posting (it is generally best to edit your post if it is recent) and creating more than one thread about the same topic. If you create more than one thread about the same topic, expect it to be locked by a moderator.

-NO posting in topics over a couple/few weeks old unless you have something important to add. In these cases, it is generally best to start your own thread and post your important information there. Please restrict bring up old treads to rare occasions when it is absolutely necessary.

-ABSOLUTELY NO posting in old Mousie Heaven memorials! This is extremely disrespectful. While a loved pet will never be forgotten, it is heart breaking to have it dragged up again. When an admin sees one of these unacceptable posts it will be deleted immediately out of respect for mouse and mousie parent.

-NO joining under more than one user name. There is no need to do this and it is very deceptive. Doing this will result in immediate dismissal of both user accounts.

-Your signature should be no taller than 125 pixels, including words and images. Additionally, signature pictures should be as small as possible. Please, no more than 100px high by 600px wide and no larger than 20KB. The smaller the better though! Forums are NOT a competition to see who can have the largest signature. It gets to be a pain when scrolling through posts if there is a bunch of huge signature pictures. Large file sizes also make the forum load slower. Violation to this rule will result in your signature being deleted. I have included an example of the maximum signature size below. Note that we have a set height and width limit. Sorter yet taller pictures are still in violation of this rule. In other words, one length does not compromise for the other.

-Use proper grammar! Do not use excessive capital letters. This includes entire posts and capitalizing the first letter of words that should not be capitalized. Use full sentences and proper punctuation. Limit chat speak. Failure to use proper grammar makes posts extremely hard to read. You will get more replies and better help if people can read your posts.

-Please keep "feeder" talk to a bare minimum. We are here for mice, not their predators.

-NO unethical breeding or care giving. We only support ethical mouse care and breeding. We are all here to learn, share stories, etc. Any and all breedings or care giving should be done with great care and knowledge. Breeding and having mice in itself is a risk. We all choose to take different risks. However, some risks are completely unnecessary. We do not support breeding or care giving practices that put mice in danger. Breeding should only be done with a specific, well educated, and well thought out goal (making more mice is NOT a goal). Not all mice are meant to be bred. Only the best mice of the best quality should be bred. We do not support careless breeding or mouse mills. We all know that people make mistakes and accidents happen sometimes. We will support you through this if this is the case. However, we will not support repeated mistakes and uneducated breeding or care giving. If you carelessly breed or put your mice in repeated danger, you will be removed from the group.

- NO disgruntle "goodbye" posts. If you do not want to be here, leave. Do not cause problems in your wake. Any post like this will be deleted. If you want to be removed from the forum, contact an admin. However, all this does is deactivate your account so you can not log in and nothing more. If you are leaving on good terms, this rule does not apply. For instance, it is perfectly acceptable if you want to wave farewell for reasons such as getting out of mice.

Simply, this is a child friendly site. If it is not suitable for a child, do not post it!

Feeder only breeders will be removed form the group. Please refer too THIS announcement on feeder only breeders

- We do not allow members that purposely use IP blockers. This is very shady. It shows intent to cause problems on the forum. While we can still trace back to you, even if you use an IP blocker, it is not worth our time. Anyone using an IP blocker will be deleted from the forum.

Violation of rules may result in permissions being taken away, being placed on Probation (moderation), removal from the forum, and/or temporary/permanent banning. When rules are violated, Admin's/Mod's will decide the best action to take on a case to case basis. Admin's/Mods decisions are final.

The Banned Topic of Religion has been some-what lifted. We will give this one more try and it will ONLY be allowed in the OT section of the forum. Please don't abuse it or it will be banned forever. This isn't a debate forum about religion, it is a forum about mice. There will be no debates on religion here. If religion is brought up, always be respectful of others and their chosen religion. While I'm sure everyone chose their religion because they feel it is right, don't call another religion wrong or act like your religion is superior than another. To put it quite simply, Respect other peoples beliefs as their own, whether you agree with them or not.

It is solely at the discretion of the moderators to decide if these rules have been broken and what action they feel needs to be taken.

It appears that I need to post a reminder about our signature rule once again. First note that I'm not making a special note of this because of any one person. In the last couple of weeks I've had to give notices to *several* individuals. Please note that signatures should not be any larger than 100px high and 600px long (and under 20K). I'm more than willing to help with this if anyone needs it :). I will not make it for you, but I can re-size, compress, and offer as much help as I'm capable of :). I love seeing all the creative signatures, don't get me wrong! We really need to keep signatures small though. It's really obnoxious when someone has signatures larger than their posts. It's a pain to scroll through all the signatures, much like spam in some ways, just to get to actual forum content. Large signatures also make the forum load slower, which I think we would all rather avoid.

Reference quote from the signature rule above.

Please, no more than 100px high by 600px wide and no larger than 20KB. The smaller the better though! It gets to be a pain when scrolling through posts if there is a bunch of huge signature pictures. Large file sizes also make the forum load slower. Violation to this rule will result in your signature being deleted.

Rule added
-NO posting links in your first post. This is in an effort to welcome mousers into this community, not just a place to spam and leave.

Addition to rule made:

-NO posting links to websites in your first *10* posts.
